IN DIALOGUE WITH POLITICIANS AND THE INDUSTRY

From Regulation to Implementation

ECE supports European regulatory processes from start to finish, through to national implementation, and advocates for practical solutions.

Political and regulatory frameworks play a decisive role in how climate protection measures are implemented, real estate values are secured over the long term, and investment decisions are made.

With more than six decades of experience in the development, management, and operation of retail real estate, ECE brings extensive practical expertise to the design and implementation of regulatory requirements.

Through our strong network in relevant industry associations at the national and European levels, we are involved in political and regulatory discussions at an early stage, where we represent the perspective of the real estate industry.

Our commitment to national and international associations is also reflected in the leadership roles we hold: Our CEO, Joanna Fisher, currently serves as Chair of the European Council of Shopping Places (ECSP). Maria Hill, our Director of Sustainability & Corporate Communications, is a member of the ZIA Executive Board and chairs key expert committees within both the ZIA and the ECSP. Since fall 2026, Ulrich Schmitz, Director of Center Operations, has also served as Chair of the German Council of Shopping Places (GCSP). In addition, other employees are actively involved in association work.

A BRIDGE BETWEEN POLITICS AND PRACTICE

The goal of this initiative is to foster an understanding of the specific needs of each asset class and to implement regulatory requirements in a practical manner, thereby supporting the long-term value stability of the real estate under our management while also contributing to the implementation of climate protection requirements.

We have translated the regulatory requirements into technical criteria, data requirements, and concrete action steps for our portfolio.

We use the evaluation processes and decision-making criteria developed in this process to systematically review regulatory requirements in our other European markets as well and translate them into concrete actions.
